• "Exploring DNA" was written by Andrew Carter (MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK). In the original (around 2000), the molecular images were displayed using Chime.
• In 2008, "Exploring DNA" was ported to Jmol Tutorial-Authoring Template (JTAT) by Frieda S. Reichsman of Molecules in Motion.
• The tutorial stopped functioning since it depended on the Java version of Jmol, unsupported by web browsers (2013-2017). It was resurrected to the present format using JSmol by Angel Herráez at the end of 2024.
