Triacylglycerols

(Formerly called triglycerides)

They are the result of the linkage of a glycerol molecule (glycerin) with 3 fatty acid molecules, equal or different.
The example here shown is 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-3-stearoylglycerol
formed by:

  • glycerol (CH2OH-CHOH-CH2OH)
  • a molecule of palmitic acid  (16:0)
  • a molecule of oleic acid  (18:1Delta9)
  • a molecule of stearic acid  (18:0)

the components.
